Trumbull is Reading
Librarian Megan Norrell shares recommended titles, what’s new, what’s coming soon from your favorite authors, and invites readers to share their favorites on Trumbull Library’s new blog, Trumbull is Reading.
Newton blogs about whatever strikes her fancy, like most bloggers, but particularly in the realm of all things pertaining to books, writing, and authors. She’s an advocate of literacy and uses social media and networking to her advantage; in addition to her blog, she is frequently seen on Twitter. Newton started blogging in May 2002 with the aim of meeting others who were passionate about books, culture, and politics. Since then, her site has been praised, criticized, and quoted in The New York Times Book Review, Forbes, New York Magazine, The Washington Post, Entertainment Weekly, USA Today, The New York Times, the UK Telegraph, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Daily News, Poets & Writers Magazine, The Guardian, the San Francisco Chronicle, The New Yorker, Book Magazine, London’s Evening Standard, The Scotsman, Slate, the Denver Post, Canada’s National Post, and many other publications
Don't let the name put you off. According to the N.Y. Times, "Bookslut is actually a friendly literary hub that aims to provide 'insightful reviews, commentary on trends, updated news, and a lot of silliness.'" And it does.
An ezine and newsletter for readers, by readers. Reviews on everything from chick lit to sci-fi to graphic novels to non-fiction, even audiobooks, are written by dozens of volunteer reviewers. Also included are tons of great author interviews. Sister sites include a reading resource for kids, teachers, parents and librarians at http://www.curledupkids.com and DVD reviews, previews and information at http://www.curledupdvd.com
Written by novelist Mark Sarvas (Harry, Revisited), this literary blog has been voted a Forbes “Best of the Web” Pick. The author has been on summer hiatus, but the blog’s substance is a combination of book reviews, support of small press publishing houses, and information about what’s happening RightNow in literary circles.
“Paper Cuts is a blog about books and other forms of printed matter, written by the editors of the Book Review. Look here for book news and opinion, interviews with writers, etc.” Very current, with multiple posts a day, more of a mainstream blog for readers of popular fiction and nonfiction.
Established in 2003, this blog for readers of all genres has been featured on NPR, and noted by The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, and The Village Voice, among others. A vast array of authors have acted as guest bloggers, including Reif Larsen, Jennifer Egan, Peter Straub, and Junot Diaz. This readers’ heaven includes essays, staff picks, reviews, guest posts, discussion on the future of the book, author interviews, prizes and “best of” lists.
